Erlina Ortiz ('12) is a multi-talented playwright, performer, and theater creator known for her humorous yet impactful approach to themes like gentrification, domestic violence, and cultural preservation in her plays. She's conducted workshops on wellness, conflict resolution, and DEI, sharing her expertise at institutions like the University of the Arts, Power Street Theatre, and Blue Stoop PHL. As the Co-Artistic Director at Power Street Theatre, many of her acclaimed plays have been showcased there.
Her works have garnered several awards and nominations, including the Bonaly Award, Barrymore Award nominations, and multiple recognitions from the Leeway Art and Change Grant. In 2021, her play "Young Money" received the National ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award Citation. Additionally, her plays "La Egoista" and "Siluetas" were selected for esteemed theater conferences in 2022, displaying her remarkable talent and impact within the industry.
