Matthew Miller is an Associate Professor in the Design & Production Area where he leads the Stage Management Program. He teaches courses such as: Stage Management, Theater Management, The Job Market, Intro to Design, and the Gen Ed course Dramatic Imagination; and mentors the stage managers who work the main stage season and operas. He has written or redesigned many courses for Temple University’s Theater Department including: a hybrid Dramatic Imagination, The Biz of the Biz, Methods of Teaching Theater, Theater Management, and several graduate- level Theater Education-centric syllabi.  From 2008-2017 he served as the Production Manager for the Department and then the newly formed Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts.  He also serves as the Head of Theater Education – for both the undergraduate and M.A. in Theater Instruction.  Starting in the 2019-2020 season Matthew will return to his roots and training to serve as technical director for main stage productions in the Center season.

For the department he is an active recruiter and attendee at national conferences such as USITT, SETC, and as well as locally at both Pennsylvania Thespians and NJ Thespians annual festivals. He regularly attends the Educational Theatre Association annual conference. He has presented workshops and/or served on panels at all of these events and conferences.

Matthew is a member of Actors Equity Association as a stage manager and has worked in both Philadelphia and NYC as a stage and production manager. He maintains a freelance lighting and scenic design career as well. Whether it be design, management, or technical direction Matthew has worked professionally and on productions at universities large and small across the country - including as far away as Hawaii’s Honolulu Theatre for Youth and on tour in Chile.

His work has been seen in Philadelphia: The Media Music Theatre, Mauckingbird Theatre Company, EgoPo Classic Theatre, Cape May Stage and for Temple Theater’s world premier production of Liverpuddlian Sleeve.  In New York: The Alonquin Theatre; New York Fringe Festival; The CORE Theatre Company; American Theater of Actors and most recently the world premier comedy called Living the Dream and a drama titled Ghost Light.  Regionally he has designed for: Merrimac Repertory Theatre; Shakespeare & Company; Everyman Theatre Company.  Prior to coming to Temple University, his work was seen in San Francisco: New Conservatory Theatre Center; Marin Shakespeare Company; The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre; The Asian-American Theatre Company, California Theatre Center and SRT in Santa Rosa, CA.

Matthew is a proud product of the MFA program in Technical Production at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds a Master of Education degree from Converse College and a BA in Theatre from Francis Marion University. Samples of his work may be seen at: mbradfordmiller.com
