Biography
Rachel Sophia Stewart is a professional film editor based in Philadelphia. Her work is focused primarily in the field of documentary editing. Over the past 5 years, she has worked as the senior editor on the 6abc series “Philadelphia: The Great Experiment.” Her work on this series has been recognized with seven Mid-Atlantic Emmys, including two in her craft for best editing. She has also won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy for best documentary on the feature “Sisters In Freedom,” which she both produced and edited, about the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. Outside of Philadelphia history, she has worked on international films in Argentina, Mexico and China. Her most recent feature work had Stewart traveling to and from China with the Philadelphia Orchestra, documenting the special relationship and deep historical ties between the two. Titled “Beethoven In Beijing” this project has already been accepted to ten different film festivals, including DocUtah, Berkshire International, and most fittingly the Classical Arts Film Festival at the Jarvis Conservatory, as well as winning second place in the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival.
Stewart is currently the lead editor on “American Experiment,” a ten hour series, spanning over 500 years of history, which will be distributed nationally. While wrapping up that series, she has returned to her alma mater, Temple University, where she will be teaching advanced courses on editing.
