Last weekend was the 97th Annual Academy Awards, closing out an awards season where Owls were flying! From actors to editors and all the designers in between, Owls are out there making some of the best movies of the year.
Oscars – Colman Domingo (‘06) was nominated for Best Lead Actor for his work in SING SING, ANORA took home best picture, which Oliver Snook (‘22) worked on as a foley artist. In the Best Documentary Category, Faculty Member Todd Chandler was a consulting editor for the nominated film SUGARCANE and Alum Dylan Smeltzer ('20) worked as an assistant editor on the winning film THE ONLY GIRL IN THE ORCHESTRA.
NAACP Image Awards - Outstanding Independent Motion Picture went to SING SING, starring Colman Domingo, Outstanding Comedy Series went to ABBOTT ELEMENTARY, where lead actress and writer Quinta Brunson also won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Outstanding Drama Series went to CROSS, which features alum Johnny Ray Gill, and Danielle Pinnock ('10) took home Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on GHOST!
SAG Awards - Da'Vine Joy Randolph and the rest of the cast on ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING scooped up a Best Ensemble award from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Santa Barbara Film Festival - Colman Domingo ('03) was honored with the Montecito Award, presented to him by Oprah Winfrey!
Film Independent Spirit Awards - Ted Passon is the director on PATRICE: THE MOVIE, which was nominated in the Best Documentary category. Thomas Emmet Ashton (‘16) worked as Assistant Editor on the film HIS THREE DAUGHTERS, which won the Altman Award.
BAFTAs- Colman Domingo was nominated in the leading actor category for SING SING, which was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
