The Temple Theater department is honored to announce that we are this year’s recipients of the University Resident Theater Association (URTA)’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Training – Acting. This award was announced alongside the Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Training – Design and Technology, which went to the University of Texas at El Paso. 

The URTA’s mission is to support the professional training of new theatre artists, and are best known for their flagship program, “The URTAs.” Every year, hundreds of MFA candidates from all theatre disciplines take part in this recruiting event where they have the opportunity to meet with faculty recruiters from among 47 universities and other top MFA theatre programs, all in one place. 

The 2023 Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Training recognizes outstanding work of undergraduate instructors, coaches, and mentors, as well as institutions, for excellence in the training and preparation of undergraduate theatre artists. As an institution winning this award, Temple Theaters will be honored at the 2024 URTA Auditions and Interviews in Chicago, and will receive a Candidate Award, which provides free registration for the URTAs to an acting student of the faculty’s choice.
